Monkey Bread

I'm not sure how I've abstained from making Monkey Bread, especially when I am the Mom of an 8 year old!  Quite frankly, I'd never heard of it prior to having a kid.  When I finally learned of it, I never tried to make it, that is, up 'til now.  

This year as part of the holiday season and the start of a yearly tradition, my daughter and I made Monkey Bread.  There are many variations and recipes  out there to choose.  Since it was our first time, I thought I'd look for a simple recipe quick and easy to make. Deviating a little from the original recipe I found, here's my version of the Monkey Bread recipe.  



                   Ingredients:
    
  • Loaf of bread       
  • 1 c sugar
  • 4 tbsp cinnamon
  • 1 stick of butter


Preparation:
  • Heat oven to 350 degrees
  • Melt stick of butter
                       
    Mix sugar and cinnamon in separate bowl
                      
Cut bread into 1 - 1 1/2 inch pieces













    Coat bread in sugar/cinnamon mix    

    Dip bread in butter
  • Place bread in bundt pan, one piece at a time
  • Bake for 35-45m, until brown
  • Allow to completely cool
  • Transfer to plate to serve



Needless to say, the smell of cinnamon was wonderful; and the taste results were pretty good…a little sweeter than I would've liked, but good.  As you can see in our pic, it separated when I began to put it on the plate.  I think it's because I didn't allow it to cool completely.  Nevertheless, it got my daughter's stamp of approval…she loved it!  Sidebar:  I did discover ways to improve the process (i.e. place sugar / cinnamon in a plastic bag and place bread in the bag to coat it…similar to Shake/Bake)...and next time I'll use less sugar. 

I must share that this is not thee most healthiest snack (if at all)…so if you're counting calories, beware!  For our family during the Christmas season, we allow ourselves to indulge a little…and yes, we gobbled this up like nobody's business…LOL!
