Over this past weekend, I made it to a Scrapbook Expo! It was held in the Dulles Expo Center Chantilly, VA. As a scrapbooker, I was really excited to have the opportunity to attend. In the past, I've planned to attend, but it never worked out in my favor…until this year! Although I traveled it alone, in this environment of fellow crafters, it was only about 5 minutes before I began to make "craft" friends willing to share tips/tricks and techniques, including sharing those special deals on the latest tools and supplies.
The Scrapbook Expo is one of those events for all crafters at all levels. It can be overwhelming when you step into this event because there are so many vendors and so much product at your fingertips. So, in an effort to be prepared, I did a little research online to get a feel of what to expect. Starting with the Scrapbook Expo's website, I was provided with a wealth of information, including the workshops offered, vendors in attendance, and most importantly inspiration.
Fortunately for me, I followed the advice of other crafters and made sure I did my once around before making a purchase. Not only did I have a budget, but I had an idea of which tools I would be interested in, as well as the techniques I wanted more information on. This gave me the opportunity to not only visit multiple vendors, but to check out their products, including the pricing.
While I didn't attend any workshops, I participated in a few free make and takes…by the way, Lorraine was awesome! At the end of the day, how excited was I to have had the chance to finish three cards using different techniques (stamp/emboss, acrylic die cut/alcohol ink, and slider).
Overall, my experience was wonderful! I had a fantastic time and plan to attend again next year. I think I'll try to volunteer at the event and participate in the crop to experience a 360 view of the event…
Have you ever attended a Scrapbook Expo?
